Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef steak cut into cubes, about 1.5 inches for even cooking
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil divided between cooking the steak and vegetables
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce for umami and salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground preferred
  • 1 teaspoon paprika for subtle smoky warmth
  • 1 teaspoon salt adjust to taste
  • 1 green bell pepper sliced into strips
  • 1 red bell pepper sliced into strips
  • 1 yellow bell pepper sliced into strips
  • 1 onion sliced into thin strips
  • 3 cups French fries frozen or homemade, cooked until golden
  • 1 tablespoon butter for finishing the steak and vegetables
  • Optional Ingredients
  • Fresh parsley chopped for garnish
  • Sesame seeds for extra texture
  • Green onions thinly sliced
  • Hot sauce or sriracha for heat lovers

Instructions

  • Season the Steak: Pat the beef cubes dry with paper towels, then season all sides generously with salt, black pepper, and paprika. Let sit for 5 minutes so the seasonings adhere.
  • Sear the Steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat for about 2 minutes until shimmering. Working in batches, add the steak cubes and sear for 2-3 minutes per side until a golden crust forms. Remove to a plate and set aside.
  • Cook the Aromatics: In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant, stirring constantly to avoid burning.
  • Sauté the Peppers and Onion: Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil, then add the sliced peppers and onion. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they're tender and slightly caramelized. Add the soy sauce and stir to combine.
  • Finish with Butter: Return the steak to the skillet along with any accumulated juices, add the butter, and toss everything together for 1-2 minutes until the steak is coated and heated through. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  • Prepare Fries (Oven Method): Spread frozen fries on a baking sheet and bake at 425°F for 15-20 minutes, shaking the pan halfway through, until golden and crispy.
  • Prepare Fries (Air Fryer Method): Place fries in the air fryer basket at 380°F for 12-15 minutes, shaking halfway through for even cooking.
  • Prepare Fries (Stovetop Method): If using homemade or fresh fries, heat oil in a heavy pot to 350°F and fry for 3-4 minutes until golden, then drain on paper towels.
  • Create the Base: Divide the crispy French fries evenly among your serving bowls.
  • Layer the Steak and Peppers: Spoon the cooked steak, peppers, onion, and all the pan juices over the fries.
  • Garnish: Top with fresh parsley, sesame seeds, or green onions if desired.
  • Serve Immediately: Enjoy while the fries are still warm and crispy and the steak is hot.
